This show was the second of two sold out nights at The Palladium. It’s been at least 4 years since the last time I saw The Black Keys. I am not sure why it took me so long to see them again, because they put on one hell of a show!
When we arrived at the show things didn’t look so good. I had absolutely no money, there were tons of scalpers and people paying up to $60 for a $35 ticket. I kept my spirits high and started asking around for a “comp” ticket. Eventually we met a fantastic fellow named Ben who actually works for a show called Yo Gabba Gabba! He hooked us up with a free ticket and told us a little bit about the Yo Gabba Gabba! Live tour and the opening act Nicole Atkins (who we unfortunately missed). Thanks to Ben we walked in right as The Black Keys took the stage. Thanks Ben! You Rock!
The house was full and people were ready to party! The band sounded fantastic and in my opinion much better then their recorded material. I really enjoyed their rhythm and blues sound and spent the entire show dancing around like a mad man.
Around the 1 hour mark I started to wonder if the Black Keys were going to do the “Indie Band Cut Off.” For those of you who don’t know what the “Indie Band Cut Off” is, its when a so-called “indie band” reaches the 1 hour mark of their set and then stops playing despite having tons of material they could still preform. This show at the 1 hour mark is when the bands lead singer (Dan Auerbach) told the crowd they only had a few more songs to preform. Thankfully then they played 4 more songs during the regular set and another 4 for the encore, which ended up being just around an hour and a half.
I had a grandiose time at this show and I think these guys got something good going for themselves. They are on my list to see again and are highly recommend, especially if you like some good times and some rock and roll. -Lorn
