This show was absolutely what I expected it to be. INCREDIBLE! I have been anticipating this show for a long time, because Ghostland Observatory hasn’t played in Texas since the beginning of their Robotique Majestique Tour and I have never seen them play in Texas before.
I am originally from the Lone Star State and I haven’t been back since last summer. So, the opportunity to meet up with some of my old buddies and see a show with this caliber of ROCK N ROLL wasn’t to be missed and will remain totally unforgetable. We had the fun adventure of floating the Guadalupe River before heading into the venue.

Inside the venue the home town crowd was electric and ready to rock. They would not be disappointed. There was a helicopter flying around the venue, which really added to the spectacle that this event was certainly going to be.
I don’t think it was actually flying around during the songs, but if it was, I didn’t notice it then. However, at the beginning of the show, and about 2/3 of the way through while Aaron addressed the audience before Silver City, the little helicopter stood out to me and it just seemed perfect.
Once the sun set, it was on like Donkey Kong, and everyone knew it. The hoots and hollers from the crowd grew with frequency until finally the dynamic duo took the stage. The familiar sound of the ambient opening music gave me chills while I prepared for the undeniable brain destruction that was about to ensue.
The laser light show wasn’t as prominant as I have seen at other shows, but I didn’t mind this at all. I have a dear spot in my heart for lasers, and Ghostland never lets me down, but the nature of the lasers in this show was complimentary. Aaron and Thomas were never really obstructed from view and this made for a very intimate homecoming experience.
If you have ever wondered who is responsible for providing the legendary Ghostland Observatory light shows, you found your answer in this episode. As Caroline so kindly revealed, the laser lights are provided by ROZONE out of Austin, TX.

This is something I have been wanting to ask Thomas Turner about, so I’ll get the full scoop sooner or later.
Dan and I were lucky enough to get backstage access from Thomas Turner (Ghostland Observatory’s beat master extrodinaire.) There was no lack of love and support at the show in Texas on this summer night. It was obvious that Aaron and Thomas had many of their friends and family at the show, so it was very fun to watch from backstage with all their home state support.
This show was one that I will never forget and I can’t wait to see Ghostland Observatory a few more times this year. They are truly one, if not THE, best up and coming independent live musical artists out there. Check them out if you ever get a chance or you’re basically ruining your life.
Upcoming Ghostland Observatory YTC Appearances:
09/20 – Street Scene – San Diego, CA
10/11 – House of Blues – Dallas, TX
12/31 – WaMu Amphitheater – Seattle, WA
Thanks again to Thomas Turner for taking care of us at this event. We look forward to seeing you guys again soon! -bryan
