Review – Janet Jackson @ Iowa State Fair
Janet Jackson closed the Iowa State Fair with her “Up Close and Personal Tour.” She opened the show with “Pleasure Principle,” looking and dancing as amazing as she did 25 years ago! The show was broken up into three acts. The first being a selection of her most danceable songs, like “Nasty,” “What Have You Done For Me Lately,” and “Control.” Then, she took a little break and showed clips from her acting career. Those included her childhood roles on “Good Times” and “Different Stokes” through her most recent role in Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married Too?”.
Janet Jackson started the second part of the show seated and did a medley of her hit ballads, followed by a tribute to her late brother, Michael, where she performed his song “Pressure,” singing along to his video performance on screen. Another break in the act featured photos of Janet through the years.
Janet Jackson returned to the stage in full force with her most heavily choreographed numbers including “If” with her performing the same stylized dance moves from the classic 1993 video. Also in this set – “Rhythm Nation” and her final tribute to Michael (with the fitting lyrics), “Together Again.” The 90-minute show was a treat for the nearly sold-out audience. Janet Jackson’s energy and showmanship continues to make her one of the best female artists of our time. Janet Jackson is what legends are made of, and I was fortunate enough witness one of her shows in person.
