Review – Miranda Lambert @ 2012 Iowa State Fair
Miranda Lambert was the first of a few shows I will be seeing at the 2012 Iowa State Fair. Some bands on my agenda are artists I haven’t seen before, and that’s always exciting.
I got there about an hour early to get parked and pick up my tickets. Once I got my tickets, the weather decided to change and a heavy downpour started, which is never a good thing at any outdoor show! Right before opener RaeLynn took the stage, it did let up – giving me enough time to get some photos.
RaeLynn put on an amazing set. She has a cute bubbly personality and struts around on the stage like she was born for it. She was a contestant on the show “The Voice.” She didn’t win the grand prize, but things are obviously looking good for her since show. Her set was about 40 minutes, and the crowd responded to her really well. While it was pouring rain, she announced the next song she was doing was called “Praying for Rain.” The crowd got a big kick out of that! Too funny!
The main attraction was up next, Miranda Lambert. The place was packed, even with the lousy weather. I’m guessing it was almost a sell out. The rain did finally quit right before she took the stage, so now the night was set for a great show…and great it was! I didn’t realize how many hits she had.
She rolled through several like “Kerosene,” “Mama’s Broken Heart,” “Gunpowder and Lead,” “Heart Like Mine,” “White Liar,” and “The House That Built Me.” Her encore was a cover of Patsy Cline’s “Crazy.” It was cool hearing her do an updated version of that classic! Miranda Lambert is definitely part of the hip Country acts around today. She absolutely gained a new fan after that show.
If you like good Country music, you need to see Miranda Lambert’s “On Fire Tour” with the talented RaeLynn as the special guest. Even with the rain, this show totally rocked!
