Early last month, I headed to East Nasty’s fooBar to see Chicago’s The Poison Arrows. After listening to their latest release, “Newfound Resolutions,” and some tracks from their previous album, I was intrigued by the band’s opiatic movement with clashing parts that agreeably swim together through elaborate bass lines and punk poetics.
There’s a mood of aggression and struggle in The Poison Arrows’ works that seems rather unfitting after meeting the kind and witty guys (which was a HUGE relief, I might add.) In this interview, we talk about recording practices, favorite new albums, concerts, and…“Marionette Zulu?” I even teach them how to do a proper pinky swear.
Apparently, these guys get compared to all sorts of bands. In my opinion, if you like The Doors, Jane’s Addiction, Nine Inch Nails, and/or the “Natural Born Killers” Soundtrack, The Poison Arrows might be up your alley.
