Monday January 24th
Jennifer is one of my favorite artists to see live. She always brings a lot of energy to her show and has an impeccable ability to connect with her audience. I can’t wait to see Jennifer again and strongly suggest that you check her out if you get the chance.
I had honestly never heard of Wanda Jackson, but after she sold out two nights at the El Rey, she caught my attention. I mean if you sell out two nights at the El Rey, you have to be doing something right. Even though the show is SOLD OUT, you should show up anyway for a chance to catch Wanda’s sound. You never know what will happen, but if you don’t come then there’s no chance at all!
I haven’t heard of White Lies before, but Giant Drag has been around town for a minute and always manages to stir up quite a buzz. Yet another SOLD OUT show on Monday night, but screw it! If you want to go, GO! I am sure there will be tix on the street you just got to hustle. (But don’t get scalped!)
This show is the final show of GROUPLOVE’s January residency at the Bootleg, and they are joined by none other then the Cold War Kids. What a cool show! Both of these bands know how to get down and the combination of the two for this show is incredible. Def try and make this one if you can. Don’t be scared by the fact this show is SOLD OUT. I am sure you can find away in if you really try!
Tuesday January 25th
Dim Mak’s weekly party is always a must for those who are down to get down. Dim Mak brings in high quality DJs, so I am sure it will be a fun night per usual. Open well bar from 10-11pm.
This is the final night of Olin & The Moon “Foot Steps” album release residency @ The Echo. Drop on by if you are down for a good time and hearing some good local bands.
This is the first of two SOLD OUT nights Iron and Wine will be playing at the Wiltern. These guys are a little too mellow for my taste, but I see the appeal. The Wiltern will sometimes release tickets at the box office the day of the show, so if you are a fan of these guys, why not give it a go and see if you can get in?
I have seen Wallpaper a few times and he always manages to bring the dance party. Tuesday night def drop on by this one.
Wednesday January 26th
Well its official, Foster The People will be playing Coachella 2011. I recommend checking these guys out in advance. There is a big buzz a brewing around these fellows. (Plus this show is FREE!)
This is the second of two sold out nights Iron and Wine will be playing at The Wiltern. These guys are a little to mellow for my taste, but I see the appeal. The Wiltern will sometimes release tickets at the box office the day of the show, so if you are a fan of these guys, why not give it a go and see if you can get in?
Thursday January 27th
This is the first of three nights Social D is playing The Hollywood Palladium. I was never much of a Social Distortion fan, but after I saw them live I was forced to change my mind. These guys ROCK beyond all comparison. I am sure their shows at the Palladium will be some of the best of 2011.
These guys always crack me up and have an impeccable record of having a good time. The show is SOLD OUT, but don’t let that discourage you, as I’m sure there are a few tickets floating around town.
I have yet to see Ill Nino, but know they played Ozz Fest a few times – so, they will probably end up destroying the Key Club. WARNING: This show is not for anyone who has trouble rocking their face off.
Friday January 28th
This show is my HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK! Since the moment this show was announced, I’ve been ecstatic about seeing the Ying Yang Twins. I got a feeling everyone in the house will be getting crunk at this show. If you are down to get crunk and are at this show make sure to track us down and say “what’s up.”
This is the second of three nights Social D is playing The Hollywood Palladium. I was never much of a Social Distortion fan, but after I saw them live I was forced to change my mind. These guys ROCK beyond all comparison. I am sure their shows at the Palladium will be some of the best of 2011.
CONTROL favorite Kid Sister is back to rock the house. If you have been to CONTROL when Kid Sister has performed, you know things are going to get nutty. So, put your dancing shoes on and ready for a long night.
Saturday January 29th
This is the third of three nights Social D is playing The Hollywood Palladium. I was never much of a Social Distortion fan, but after I saw them live I was forced to change my mind. These guys ROCK beyond all comparison. I am sure their shows at the Palladium will be some of the best of 2011.
Deerhoof has been around for a minute and seems to have a buzz always surrounding them. I don’t get it. I have seen these guys and was not impressed at all. Nonetheless, they are playing. So, if you are a fan, check ‘em out!
Didn’t they make a movie about these guys? This is an early show, so if you are looking for a family activity this Saturday afternoon why not watch some little kids rock out?
Sunday January 30th
I really dig the lead singer’s voice from Against Me! There is such a grittiness to it. They also have a really fun upbeat tempo to all of their songs. I am sure these guys will get the Music Box bumping.
Dim Mak’s weekly Sunday night is all ways a good place to be on a Sunday. The event takes place at Drais which is on the roof of the W Hotel in Hollywood. In addition to kick-ass residence, this party constantly has special guests dropping by (Steve Aoki, Felix Da House Cat, Z-Trip, Etienne De Crecy) plus $5 beers and $7 cocktails all night long.
