YTC – Los Angeles – Concert List – 03/08/11 to 03/13/11
Mar 7th, 2011
Things are looking a bit slow this week, but here is a list of shows that caught our attention for one reason or another. If there are any shows you think we should know about, please comment on this post. Rock and Roll -lorn + Bryan
Tuesday, March 8th
Well, Dim Mak Tuesdays at Cinespace is finished, but the good folks at Dim Mak are bringing us a new Tuesday night party at their new space - the Dim Mak Studios. I am sure these parties will not disappoint. Dim Mak Studios is located a mere block from the Cinespace location.
This is the first of two nights Eric Clapton will be performing at Gibson AMP. The tickets are ridiculously overpriced, but then again it’s Eric Clapton, so you’ll get your money’s worth. There are a small amount of individual tix available for this show, but I’d jump on it, as I am sure this one will sell out.
Brutus Get The Girl is heading, but it was Smithfield Bargain that got my attention. We’ve had the pleasure of having two of the members (Daniel and David Landau) of Smithfield perform at several of our events and they’re always top-notch. I would expect nothing less of them from this project and for $5, you can’t go wrong.
Wednesday, March 9th
It’s not surprising that Lykke Li sold out El Rey. She has amazing talent and style, and I’m sure seeing her at El Rey would be nothing but magical. We are going to try to pick up tix on the street, but if you aren’t as brave, she’ll be back in May to play a show at the Wiltern.
This is the second of two nights Eric Clapton will be performing at Gibson AMP. The tickets are ridiculously overpriced, but then again it’s Eric Clapton, so you’ll get your money’s worth. There are a small amount of individual tix available for this show, but I’d jump on it, as I am sure this one will sell out.
Thursday March 10th
Hoodie Allen is headlining this show. I have heard a lot of buzz about him, so this should be a fun one. It was DJ B-Ray and TCP$cash’s DJ set that caught our attention. I have seen both of these guys before and they always deliver. I’m sure their combo of DJ w/ live drummer will be nothing besides stellar. Tickets are$12, but the Key Club is running a buy 3 get 1 free promotion for this show, so you can score 4 tix for $36 if you buy in advance.
The Music Box is def ahead of the curve on this one. Excision knows how to blow the roof off a spot. This is a show that won’t disappoint those who are down to get down.
Friday, March 11th
Word on the street is that Schoolboy Q is hot. Plus this show is at the Key Club, so it could be filled with all sorts of surprises.
Control is always a crazy way to spend your Friday night. I am still not exactly sure why their events are 19+, but I’m sure there is a good reason somewhere in the fine print. Mr Oizo headlines and brings that crazy French dance music the kids seem to love these days. Tommy Lee and DJ Aero also hit the decks for what will be an interesting set. Will Bailey is the supporting act, so make sure to get there early and stay late so you don’t miss any of the non-stop dance action.
First off, I am shocked that Mike Watt is playing the Echo. And second, the show isn’t sold out. I have seen Mike a few times before and he always delivers. This show is def a good opportunity to catch him and his Missing Men in an intimate setting.
YA! Its Motörhead! You can’t leave them off your concert list. They play LA a few times a year, but they’re an institution, so if you are down to rock your face off and go crazy, you should check these doods out.
Saturday, March 12th
Jesse Rose always delivers and brings in a fairly good crowd, so if you’re interested in partying into the wee hours, you might want to hit up Avalon this Sat night.
We caught Mimi Horror a few years back and they entertained. They have a great dancy sound and incorporate a lot of live elements into their set. This show should be a down and dirty good time.
I have yet to see Tape N Tapes or Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr, but have heard crazy things about both of them. Dale Earnhardt is into some crazy and experimental stuff, so if your down for some noise dancing, this could be the show for you.
Sunday, March 13th
Dim Mak’s weekly Sunday night is always a good place to be on a Sunday. The event takes place at Drais which is on the roof of the W Hotel in Hollywood. In addition to kick-ass residence, this party constantly has special guests dropping by (Steve Aoki, Felix Da House Cat, Z-Trip, Etienne De Crecy) plus $5 beers and $7 cocktails all night long.
